A Sleepy Fishing Village...
Nestled on a crescent-shaped bay on the Pacific Ocean of Southern Nicaragua, San Juan del Sur was once a stopover for gold prospectors headed to California in the 1850s. Today, San Juan del Sur's popularity is growing as a prized vacation spot with dry resort weather featuring spectacular ocean views and is an unspoiled alternative to Costa Rica.
Just two-hours by from the well-connected Managua International Airport, this charming fishing village consists of wooden homes sporting tin roofs that are painted in bright colors, open-air restaurants like El Timon, El Pozo and El Colibri with palm-thatched roofs that line the main street along the beachfront. The Iguana Bar and Bambu Beach Bar offer an evening of local color and nightlife. Rocamar shows movies and concerts on the big screen while serving up authentic smoked foods right on the beach.
In and around San Juan, you are sure to find plenty to see and do — or you might prefer doing nothing at all-pure and utter relaxationin one of Nicaragua's most beautiful areas.
